Mount Olive, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team defeated the Braves of UNC Pembroke 61-53 on Monday. This win takes the Trojans to 11-0 overall and 9-0 in Conference.

INSIDE THE SCORE

The Trojans started out strong with a 2-0 lead over the Braves with 9:41 remaining in the first quarter. UMO increased their lead to 6-0 with a jump shot from Sherry Johnson with 8:10 remaining. The Braves answered back tying the game at six with 6:38 remaining. Mount Olive took over the momentum and pulled away from the Braves 15-10 with 1:40 left in the first quarter. The Trojans closed out quarter number one with a five point lead 19-14. 

The start of the second quarter saw an increase in the Trojan lead 21-14. The Braves rallied back to come within four points of the Trojans with 7:45 remaining 22-18. The dominating Mount Olive offense increased their lead to 12 with a jump shot from Sherry Johnson 20-18. The Braves offense came back to be within five of UMO but not before the Trojans closed out the first half with a seven point lead 32-25. 

The first 30 seconds of the third quarter was quiet until Azariah Fields sunk two three throws to put the Trojans ahead by eight. UMO owned the remaining minutes if the third quarter as they went into the fourth and final quarter with a 13 point lead 47-34. 

The fourth quarter was falling to the side of the Braves as they decreased the Trojan lead to five 47-42 with 6:28 remaining. Three minutes later, UNC Pembroke came within two of the Trojans 51-49. The Trojans did not stop fighting as they took the eight point victory 61-53. 

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS

Azariah Fields led the Trojans with 21 points, seven rebounds and eight assist, while Sherry Johnson took home eight rebounds and 15 points.

BRAVES LEADERS

The Braves were led by Alcenia Purnell with 12 points.
