DUE WEST, South Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team defeated the Flying Fleet of Erskine College 61-32 on Saturday. This win takes the Trojans to 10-0 overall and 8-0 in Conference.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The Trojans started out strong with a three pointer from Ayonna Cotton to take the 3-0 lead with 9:28 remaining in the first quarter. With 6:39 remaining the Trojans increased their lead to five, 7-2 with a layup from Azariah Fields. After three minutes of neither side taking a substantial lead, UMO took a seven-point lead 9-2 with 3:45 remaining. The Flying Fleet decreased the Trojan lead to five heading into quarter number two 13-8.
Ivanada Hudjakova brought the Mount Olive lead back to seven in the first two seconds of the second quarter 15-8. The dominating Trojan offense did not stop there as they earned a 10 point lead with 7:55 remaining 20-10. These Conference Carolinas teams took another two minute pause in score, until Trojan Azariah Fields cashed in for a three-pointer 23-12. Mount Olive headed into halftime with a 13 point lead 30-17
Twenty seconds into the second half the Trojans increased their lead to 15 with a layup from Ivanada Hudjakova 32-17. The Erskine defense could not hold off the Trojans for the remainder of the third quarter. UMO held onto their momentum increasing their lead to 27 as they went into the fourth quarter.
Mount Olive took their third quarter momentum into the fourth quarter by taking their lead to 29 with 9:53 remaining in the contest. The Mount Olive defense held the Flying Fleet at 26 for two minutes as they brought their lead to 30. Erskine did not come within 28 of the Trojans for the remainder of the Contest. UMO took the 29 point victory to continue their undefeated season.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Azariah Fields led the Trojans with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Ivanada Hudjakova took home seven rebounds and 14 points.
FLYING FLEET LEADERS
The Flying Fleet were led by Carmen Chandler with 10 points.
