MURFREESBORO, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive men's basketball team fell to the Hawks of Chowan University 74-73 Thursday. This loss takes the Trojans to 9-5 overall and 8-2 in Conference.
INSIDE THE SCORE
Chowan saw the first two points of the contest with19:21 remaining. The Trojans answered back with a four-point run 4-2 with 17:54. Later in the first half the Hawks took their momentum to achieve a 17-point lead 31-14 with 4:36 remaining. Mount Olive could not come within 10 of Chowan for the remainder of the first half 37-27.
UMO came out strong in the second half coming within nine of the hawks with 16:58 remaining 41-32. The Hawks regained their momentum from the first half to increase their lead to 15 49-35 with 14:58 remaining. The Trojans answered back to come within six of the Hawks 55-49 with 11:53 remaining. With 9:40 left the Trojans came within one of Chowan 57-56 and Shakei Hines sank a free-throw. UMO pulled ahead by four with 7:43 remaining with a three-pointer from Cole Johnson. With 0:59 remaining a jump-shot form Micheal Brown put the Trojans ahead by three 73-70. Chowan answered with a lay-up decreasing the Trojan lead to one. The Trojans momentum came to a halt when the Hawks made a jump shot with 0:01 remaining in the contest. Chowan University took the Victory 74-73.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Trayvon Ferrell led the Trojans with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Micheal Brown took home 14 points.
HAWKS LEADERS
The Hawks were led by Jay Estime with 22 points.
