Women's Volleyball Goes 0-2 During Final Day Of FMU Invitational

Florence, S.C.--  The University of Mount Olive fell to Queens and the University of Charleston during day two of the Francis Marion Invitational on Saturday. This puts the Trojans 5-5 overall.

1st Set
UMO started off strong in the first set by drilling three straight points with a pair of kills from Starr Sergent. The Trojans allowed Queens to take an eight-point run, until a kill from Sergent returned the ball to the side of UMO bringing the score to 8-4. A kill from Ele'sia Williams brought the Trojans within four 9-5. The UMO offense led by Jenna Myer then fought back to be within two 10-8. Two kills from Williams stopped a Royals run bringing the Trojans within a point at 16-15. The Trojans, however, could not find an answer as Queens took set one 25-18.

2nd Set
Mount Olive took the first point in set number two with a kill from Ashlyn Stone. UMO then took a 3-1 lead early in the set, until Queens answered back with a six-point run. A pair of kills from Trojan Amara Eziakonwa brought UMO with in four 8-4. The Trojan offense then went on a three-point run 9-7, but still trailed Queens. UMO did not seem to have an answer for Queens in set two, allowing a four-point run 15-11. After a pair of kills from Eziakonwa, Mount Olive cooled off, as Queens took set two 25-18.

3rd Set
UMO jumped out to a 3-0 lead over Queens with a kill from Williams. After allowing the Royals a seven-point run the Trojan offense took control with a kill from Williams. A kill from Stone brought UMO within one point of Queens 8-7. Mount Olive continued to attack with a pair of kills from Sergent, which brought the Trojans deficit to four, 14-10. The Mount Olive offense tried to make a run, but Queens ultimately took set three 25-21. 

University of Charleston Match
1st Set
 
UMO battled back-and-forth with the Golden Eagles with a pair of kills from Williams and a kill from Sergent to make the score tied at 3-3. An ace from Goodman took the lead for UMO 5-4. The Trojans did not have an answer for the Golden Eagles, allowing them to take a four-point run leaving the score 8-5. A kill from Sergent stopped a run from Charleston resulting in a score of 11-8. After a nine-point run from the UC, the Golden Eagle took set one 25-12.

2nd Set
The Trojans had a slow start to set two. A four-point run from UMO with four straight kills from Sergent brought the Trojans ahead 11-9. The Mount Olive offense did not stop there, a kill from Karoline Cox kept the lead for the Trojans 12-10. After another kill from Cox made the score 16-14 in favor of the Golden Eagles, but there was not much action from Mount Olive to close out the set as they fell 25-16.

3rd Set 
A Trojan kill from Eziakonwa brought UMO within one of the Golden Eagles early in the set, 6-5.  The Mount Olive offense had a kill from Stone, and Eziakonwa to make the score 13-12. UMO went on a short three-point run with errors from Charleston. After being down by only two 19-17, the Trojans were unable to find an answer for the Eagle offense as Charleston took set three 25-22.

Brooke Farley lead with 29 assists.

McKenzie Damon lead the University of Charleston with 10 kills.
