Mount Olive, N.C.- The University of Mount Olive Trojans (3-2, 2-0 CC) defeated Chowan University (2-2, 1-1) 2-0 in Conference Carolinas action Wednesday night.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The opening half had Mount Olive and Chowan battle neck and neck registering eight shots each but found themselves scoreless at the break.
In the second half, Christian Jaimes broke the tie 2:04 in after Ethan Willie found him open in front of goal. The Hawks and Trojans exchanged 10 shots before a hard foul against UMO led to a Hawk being sent off with his second yellow, forcing CU to play a man down for the remainder of the match in the 74th minute.
Mount Olive took that momentum and shot off three more shots before Mustafa Nadeem sealed the win with a goal to the right side with 36 seconds left in the game.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Nadeem and Jaimes with a score each.
CHOWAN LEADERS
The Hawks were led by Tren Drexhage with five shots for Chowan.
KEY STAT
The annual battle between the Hawks and Trojans added for extra excitement as the match had a season-high seven yellow cards and three red cards.
