No. 7 UMO Baseball Wins Battle Of The Trojans Against Virginia State 17-2

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The No. 7 University of Mount Olive baseball cruised past Virginia Sate University in non-conference action at Scarborough Field on Tuesday afternoon. UMO improves to 25-6 overall, while Virginia State falls to 3-6.

GAME INFORMATION
The scoring started off earling for the visiting VSU Trojans as they were able to score the game's first run  on an RBI-single in the first. 

Mount Olive responded and tied the game on a Gunner Tolston sacrifice fly in the bottom half, but the scoring continued moving forward.

Virginia State regained the lead on a Granderson single down the left field line and VSU led 2-1. The lead was the last time VSU led as UMO's bats woke up.

Mount Olive went onto score at least on run in every inning except the eighth catapulting their lead to 17-2 as Virginia State was shut down offensively.

UMO's scoring was highlighted by a Stephen Baughan two-run home run in the 5th and a Zack Smith two-run RBI in the 7th.

TROJAN LEADERS
Zack Smith led the team's offense with three RBI off three hits. Justin Koehler (2-1) earned the win in relief, throwing two and a third innings of hitless baseball and struck out four.

VIRGINIA STATE LEADERS
Carl Granderson led the Trojan's offense with one of the team's two RBI.

KEY MOMENT
The key moment came in the bottom of the second when UMO pushed home three runs to regain the lead.

ON DECK
Mount Olive will hit the road for the remainder of the season beginning with a four-game Conference Carolinas series in Belmont, N.C. on April 9, against Belmont Abbey at 12 p.m.
