MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The No. 7 University of Mount Olive baseball cruised past Emmanuel College in Conference Carolinas action at Scarborough Field on Saturday afternoon. UMO improves to 24-6 overall 20-4 in conference, while Emmanuel goes to 12-19, 11-17. It was also senior day for 13 members of the UMO baseball team who were honored before game one.
GAME ONE INFORMATION
Game one had Mount Olive jump out to an early 2-0 lead in the first after Vito Patierno's single into left allowed two Trojans to score to open the scoring for UMO.
Emmanuel ended up tying the game in the third after plating a single run in the second and a pair of runs in the third on a two-RBI single.
The turning point came in the next inning as the Trojans unloaded for five runs. UMO saw run production from Jack Casbarro, Dusty Baker and Patierno. The highlight being Baker's two-run homerun.
The Lions poked home a single run in the fifth with a home run but were unable to score any more as UMO plated another run and took game one 8-4.
TROJAN LEADERS
Vito Patierno led the team's offense with two RBI off two hits. Justin Koehler (1-1) earned the win in relief allowing a run off a single hit and struck out nine.
EMMANUEL LEADERS
Will Pittman led the Lion's offense with two RBI.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment came in the fourth when UMO scored five runs to regain the lead for good.
GAME TWO INFORMATION
Mount Olive was kept quite until the third when a bases loaded hit-by-pitch on Patierno scored the first run of the game. Gunner Tolston drove in the next run and gave the Trojans a 2-0 lead.
The scoring did not stop in the series-finale as UMO pushed home 11 more runs over the next five innings. Emmanuel was only able to score a single run in the eighth as Mount Olive took game four of the series 13-1 and swept the series 4-0.
TROJAN LEADERS
Gunner Tolston led the team's offense with three RBI. Kyle Davis (3-0) earned the win going six complete allowing two hits and struck out eight.
EMMANUEL LEADERS
Sam Stohr collected an RBI to lead the way for the Lions.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment came in the third when UMO took the lead for good on their way to a 13-1 win.
