Trojans Fall at Home To King University

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The Mount Olive women's volleyball team fell at home against King University on Saturday afternoon, losing in four sets, 3-1. 

GAME INFORMATION
In the first set the two teams exchanged points to begin the match. Down three 13-10, the Trojans rattled off an unanswered five points beginning with an attack error and ended with a kill from Amara Eziakonwa, giving the Trojans a 15-13 lead. Not allowing themselves to lose control of the match, the Tornado answered back with three straight points, retaking the lead 16-15. The Trojans then scored five out of next six points, taking a 20-17 lead. With the Tornado trailing by three, they scored eight out of the final nine points, winning the set 25-21.

Set two began much like set one. Each team trading blows. With the Trojans ahead 8-7, they scored five unanswered points increasing their lead to 13-7. Met with three straight points from the Tornado, the Trojans scored five points in a row, sparked by a kill from Starr Sergent, giving them a 18-10 lead. With the Tornado threatening and the Trojans holding on to a 18-13 lead, Mount Olive shut the door and scored the next five points. Giving them a 23-13 lead and winning the set 25-16. 

In the third set each team was trading blows. The Trojans picked up some momentum with the score 8-7. The Trojans scored an unanswered six points giving them a 14-7 lead. After trading one point each it was time for the Tornado to go on a run. Doing so, they scored five points in a row, bringing themselves to within two of the lead 15-13. As the set continued each team kept the other within grasp. The Tornado scored four points in a row, taking the lead 19-17. With the Trojans on the ropes, the team rattled off three points in a row, making the score 24-22. The Tornado would win the match though, one play later from a kill, 25-22. 

The fourth and final set saw the Tornado get out to a 6-4 lead. After trading points the Tornados found themselves ahead by four, 12-7. With momentum hard to come by the Trojans did ride a quick three unanswered points to bring themselves to within one point of the lead, 14-13. This was followed by the Tornado scoring the next five out of seven points, extending their lead to 19-15. With their backs against the wall down 23-20 the Trojans tied the game at 23 a piece. The Tornado then scored the next two points, taking the set 25-23 and the match 3-1.

Amara Eziakonwa led the Trojans with ten kills.

TORNADO LEADERS
Julie Ward finished with eighteen kills.

KEY MOMENT
In the third set King University scored five points in a row bringing themselves back to within reach of the set. They won the set and the match 3-1.

The Trojans are back in action next Friday, March 12th , at 7 pm on the road against Southern Wesleyan University.
