MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The Trojans returned to action after an eighteen day hiatus. They returned to Kornegay Arena to take on the Chowan Hawks. Mount Olive swept the match in three sets.
GAME INFORMATION
Set one began with Chowan jumping out to a 4-1 lead. The teams then exchanged points, with neither team putting together a run greater than three. With the score tied at seventeen,
Alyssa Jackson and
Nafsika Papavasileiou combined for a block, sparking a 3-0 run, capped with a solo block by
Camryn Huber, putting the Trojans up 20-17. A service error gave the Hawks a point, but the Trojans responded with another 3-0 run, increasing their lead to 23-18. The Hawks responded with two points of their own, bringing themselves within three of the lead again. The Trojans responded by scoring the next two points, with match point coming courtesy of a block from
Amara Eziakonwa and Huber, 25-20.
Set two saw the Hawks jump out to a similar lead, 5-1. The Trojans scored the next three points, cutting the deficit to one, 5-4. The Hawks responded by scoring four unanswered points, increasing their lead to 9-4. The teams exchanged points until the Hawks strung together three points, making the score 14-8. With the score 15-9, Jackson sparked a 9-0 run for the Trojans,
Ele'sia Williams collecting the ninth point, putting the Trojans up 18-15.The Hawks responded by scoring the next six out of eight points to retake the lead, 21-20. The Trojans scored three points in a row, taking back the lead 23-21. With the Trojans leading 24-22, the Hawks found some life and responded by retaking the lead, 25-24. With their backs against the ropes, the Trojans scored the next four of five points to take set two 28-26 and go up in the match, 2-0.
Though the Trojans were up 2-0 in the match, each set was tightly contested and the third set was no different. The teams battled back and forth, bringing the score to 12-10, Trojans. The Hawks went on a 5-1 run to retake the lead, 15-13. Not to be outdone the Trojans put together five points in a row, retaking the lead, 18-15. After trading points, the Trojans closed the game out with six unanswered points, taking the set 25-17, and the match, 3-0.
KEY MOMENT
In the second set the Trojans were down 15-9 early.
Alyssa Jackson sparked nine straight points for the Trojans, retaking the lead 18-15. Helping the Trojans win set two, and ultimately the match in three sets.
