MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The No. 3 University of Mount Olive baseball team defeated King University 9-2/8-4 in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon at Scarborough Field. UMO improves to 9-0 overall 6-0 in conference, while King falls to 3-6.
GAME ONE INFORMATION
The Trojans started game one trailing as King blasted a solo home run to take an early 1-0 lead. UMO responded and tied the game in the bottom half. Neither team scored until the fourth when the Trojans pushed home four runs to take a 4-1 advantage. Mount Olive continued to add on in the fifth adding four more additional runs to put the game out of reach as they cruised to a 9-2 win in game one.
TROJAN LEADERS
Aaron Hedgepeth led the team with two RBI on his 2-for-4 day. Reed Parris (4-0) recorded the win going the complete seven innings allowing two runs off three hits and struck out seven.
KING LEADERS
Junior Renwick had two RBI in game one for the Tornado.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the first game was in the 4th inning when UMO took the lead as they never relinquished it.
GAME TWO INFORMATION
Game two had Mount Olive jump out to a 4-0 lead lead from the start as Alan Alonso and Jack Casbarro hit sacrifice flies to aid in the inning. Blake McLean added a sacrifice fly of his own in the fourth to extend the lead to 5-0. King was able to scratch across a pair of runs in the fifth, but UMO took one of those runs back in the bottom half. Mount Olive added another run in the eighth and moved a head 8-2. King attempted a comeback in the ninth and was able to score two but UMO held off the comeback and took game two 8-4.
TROJAN LEADERS
Baker led the team with two RBI. Hunter Stevens (3-0) picked up the win going seven complete allowing two runs off four hits and struck out eight.
KING LEADERS
Deric Graham collected two RBI to lead the way for the King in game two.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment came in the first when UMO took the lead and never gave it back.
