MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Mount Olive women's volleyball held their home opener against Conference Carolinas opponent Lees-McRae College on Friday afternoon, sweeping the match 3-0.
GAME INFORMATION
Set one began with a kill from Carlee Allbaugh of Lees-McRae. The Trojans then scored three points in a row, taking a 3-1 lead. Allbaugh halted the Trojans run, but only temporarily as they scored another four unanswered points, extending their lead to 7-2. With the Trojans in the lead, 12-10
Nafsika Papavasileiou sparked a 4-0 run extending the lead to six, 16-10. The Trojans scored the next 9 out of 12 points taking set one, 25-13.
The Bobcats jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead in set two. After exchanging a couple more points each, the Trojans scored an unanswered eight points, giving them a 13-7 lead. The Trojans kept a comfortable lead until the Bobcats made it close, bringing themselves within four points, 20-16. Lees-McRae kept on the throttle, scoring the next four out of six points, cutting the deficit to just two points, 22-20. A service error then gave the Trojans a 23-20 lead. Aside from one kill from the Bobcats, the Trojans secured the next two points, taking set two, 25-21. The set point coming courtesy of a bad set from the Bobcats.
Set three was a thriller from start to finish. Throughout the set no team led by more than three points. With the Trojans leading by just one, 22-21, the Bobcats gifted the Trojans a point via service error, increasing their lead to 23-21. With a Trojans victory just two points away, the Bobcats scored an unanswered three points, giving them a 24-23 lead, applying pressure on the Trojans. Not shying away from the moment, Starr Segent came up with a huge kill to tie the game at 24 a piece. Each team committed an error bringing the score to 25 all. Each team then continued to match each other with the game on the line, trading the next six points bringing the game to 28-28. The Trojans had an ace up their sleeve to close the game out.
Amara Eziakonwa collected two service aces, giving the Trojans a 30-28 win and the match 3-0.
