Banner Elk, N.C.– The Trojans of Mount Olive took to the road to play the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College. Mount Olive took the lead at the end of the first half, which carried them to victory, securing the win, 1-0.
Game Information
Mount Olive got off to a slow start, rotating the ball around the Lees-McRae home field. The Bobcats started with a high press attack, putting UMO under pressure from the start. The Trojans remained patient, taking their chances when they came while holding off the Bobcats' attack. With 18 seconds remaining in the first half Mount Olive was able to find the back of the net. Alfie Pope was able to find the lower-left corner of the net during a scramble for the ball coming in from a left-footed free kick from Kevin Avila from outside the 18-yard box. The clock quickly expired as UMO went into half-time 1-0.
The Trojans kept the pressure on the Bobcats hoping to at least retain their lead, if not extend it. Lees-McRae dropped their high pressure on Mount Olive's back line in hopes of not giving up another goal, which proved to be successful. UMO would get three shots off before Lees-McRae was able to get their first opportunity for the half. Mount Olive's continuous pressure attacking and smart defensive strategies would deny the Bobcats to get on the scoreboard, clinching a 1-0 win.
UMO advances to 3-2-1 in the season as the Bobcats of Lees-McRae college move to 0-6 in the season.
