MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The No. 8 University of Mount Olive baseball swept a four-game series with Chowan University in Conference Carolinas action in Murfreesboro, N.C. UMO improves to 19-6 overall, 16-4 conference, while Chowan goes to 3-20, 0-20.
GAME ONE INFORMATION
Mount Olive came out swinging in the series-opener as Vito Patierno doubled in the first run of the game in the first. Alan Alonso homered in two more runs in the second to extend the Trojan lead to 3-0.
UMO went onto add two more runs in the third and held off the Chowan comeback in the seventh to take game one 5-3.
TROJAN LEADERS
Vito Patierno and Alan Alonso led the team's offense with two RBI each. Reed Parris (5-1) earned the complete game win allowing three runs off three hits and struck out eight.
CHOWAN LEADERS
Noah Cartwright collected two RBI to lead the way for the Hawks.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment came from the start when UMO took the lead in the first and CU was unable to overcome.
GAME TWO INFORMATION
Game two of the series did not fair much better for the home Hawks as Mount Olive exploded for five runs in the first inning. UMO had RBI from Gunner Tolston, Zack Smith, and Aaron Hedgepeth and the Trojans led 5-0.
Mount Olive continued to tack on runs while shutting down Chowan as UMO added two runs in the third, four in the sixth, and a pair of runs in the seventh and ninth to shutout CU 15-0 in game two Friday.
TROJAN LEADERS
Zack Smith led the team's offense with three RBI. Hunter Stevens (6-0) picked up the win as he went seven complete allowing five hits and struck out a season-high 15.
CHOWAN LEADERS
Ty Johnson collected two hits to lead the way for the Hawks.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment came from the start when Mount Olive scored five runs to take the lead in the first and Chowan was unable to overcome.
GAME THREE INFORMATION
As was the theme all weekend UMO took the lead from the first inning, this time scoring four funs in the opening frame. Tolston, Stephen Baughan, and Alonso contributed to the scoring.
Mount Olive unloaded their offense on the Hawks over the next six innings scoring 19 runs including a Baughan two-run homerun in the third as they cruised to a 23-3 win in the third game of the series.

Stephen Baughan led the team's offense with five RBI. Caleb Bishop (3-1) was credited with the win from the start as he went five complete allowing one run off six hits and struck out six.
CHOWAN LEADERS
Patrick Krack collected two RBI to lead the way for the Hawks.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment came from the first when UMO opened the game with four runs on their way to scoring 23 in the win.
GAME FOUR INFORMATION
The series finale ended the same as all the rest with Mount Olive scoring early in the first. Once again it was Patierno and Baughan leading the way scoring for UMO as they scored three to lead off the game.
Mount Olive added three more in the second before Chowan added a single run the bottom of the second. UMO went onto add eight more runs before Chowan scored a final run in the bottom of the ninth as the Trojans took the game 14-2.
