Trojans Down Bulldogs Under the Lights on Senior Night 2-1

Mount Olive, N.C.–  The University of Mount Olive Trojans played their senior night game under the lights against the Barton College Bulldogs. UMO went down early in the game but came back to keep their undefeated streak alive, winning 2-1. Prior to the game, Sara Berglund was honored for her time spent at UMO.

Game Information 

The Trojans came out of the gate with intensity, looking to score early against Barton College. With high pressure, UMO had five scoring opportunities in the first 15 minutes of play. Barton responded by getting their first point on the board after Hailey Russell scored a right-footed shot from outside the 18-yard box. Mount Olive continued to try to find their rhythm in the game; they were successful in keeping the Bulldogs out of the net for the remainder of the half but were not able to score thus trailing 1-0 into halftime. 

UMO entered the second half with vigor getting an early opportunity for a goal. Jaelyn Brown scored the first goal for the Trojans, finding the left side of the net on a right-footed penalty kick. As time ticked down both the Trojans and Bulldogs shifted to a higher gear, each hoping to break the tie. Mount Olive found the back of the net first, with 27 minutes remaining, as Riley Baker place the ball to the lower-left corner off of a blocked shot from Jasmine Pinter. The Trojans kept their foot on the gas to finish out the senior night match, winning 2-1. 

Mount Olive advances to a record of 3-0, as the Barton College Bulldogs move to 1-2-1.
