WINGATE, N.C. - The No. 8 University of Mount Olive baseball dropped a midweek battle with Wingate University 8-2 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon in Wingate, N.C. UMO falls to 15-6 overall, while Wingate goes to 14-7.
GAME INFORMATION
Wingate came out firing shutting down Mount Olive in the top of the first setting up the Bulldogs to score two runs off an RBI-double.
The scoring did not stop for WU as they went onto add five more runs over the next four innings to take a 7-0 lead after five complete.
Joe Mason put Mount Olive on the boards finally in the sixth with an RBI-single to left.
Wingate was able to level the Trojans run in the bottom of the sixth and led 8-1.
UMO attempted a comeback in the ninth and were able to score off a Vito Patierno home run, however, his solo run was all the Trojans could score as they fell 8-2.
TROJAN LEADERS
Vito Patierno and Joe Mason led the team's offense with an RBI each. Caleb Bishop (0-1) was credited with the loss from the start as he went two and a third allowing five runs, four earned, off three hits and struck out two.
WINGATE LEADERS
Michael Dansky collected two RBI to lead the way for the Bulldogs.

The key moment came from the start when Wingate took the lead in the first and UMO was unable to overcome.
