Trojans Upset Bulldogs in Home Opener 2-1

Mount Olive, N.C.–  The Trojans took to their home field for the first time this season against the Barton College Bulldogs on a windy Monday afternoon. The Trojans Upset the Bulldogs at Amon Field 2-1.

Game Information

Mount Olive kicked off with an advantage, going with the wind for the first half. Both Mount Olive and Barton came out with intensity, constantly switching possession and looking for opportunities. The Trojans claimed the first shot of the game 21 minutes into the first half, initiating more offensive chances for both teams. Meschak Kebi put the Trojans on the board scoring a header from the top of the six, off a long ball from Amin Ferreira. UMO led the game 1-0 into halftime. 

With the heavy winds remaining, Mount Olive took a defensive position to start the second half, hoping to keep the Bulldogs away from the net. The Trojans defense kept strong until the 52 minute of play, as Barton's Omar Aboutaleb scored a low right-footed shot off a through ball. Mount Olive kept the pressure on Barton's defense, outshooting the Bulldogs 9-3. Kevin Avila broke the standoff, sinking a left-footed shot just under the crossbar, pushing the Trojans back in front 2-1. UMO was able to hold off the attacking Bulldogs for the remainder of the half and take home the victory at home. The

University of Mount Olive advances 2-2-1 in the season, as Barton College takes their first loss, making them 3-1.
