No. 16 Trojan Baseball Splits Series-Finale With No. 4 North Greenville

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The No. 16 University of Mount Olive baseball team split the series-finale doubleheader with No. 4 North Greenville University, falling in game one 10-3, before winning the second in walk-off fashion 4-3 in Conference Carolinas action Sunday afternoon at Scarborough Field. UMO improves to 15-5 overall 12-4 in conference, while North Greenville goes to 17-6, 15-5.

GAME ONE INFORMATION
The first game was a stalemate until the third for both teams when North Greenville struck for two runs in the top half. Mount Olive countered with a solo home run from Dusty Baker and UMO trailed 2-1 after three complete.

Jack Casbarro hit a solo shot in the fourth to tie the game, but NGu went on an offensive splurge scoring six unanswered runs to take an 8-3 lead after the top of the sixth. 

Zack Smith stopped the bleeding in the bottom half with UMO's final run of the day, as NGu went onto take game one 10-3.

TROJAN LEADERS
Jack Casbarro led the Trojan offensive with an RBI on a 1-for-3 day with a walk. Blake Gipson (0-2) got the loss allowing four runs off seven hits.

NORTH GREENVILLE LEADERS
John Michael Faile collected four RBI to lead the way for the Crusaders.

KEY MOMENT
The key moment came in the sixth when NGu padded their lead beyond a comeback from Mount Olive.

GAME TWO INFORMATION
Game two had once againa lack of scoring for the first two innings. North Greenvile, however, struck first in the third on a solo home run to take the game's first lead.

UMO did have an answer in the bottom have as Patierno doubled home Gunner Tolston and Joe Mason to put the Trojans in front 2-1. Stephen Baughan added to the insurance with a solo shot in the fourth and all things were looking good for the home nine.

It was not until the ninth when NGU was down to their last out the somehow the Crusaders found life. a base hit up the middle led to a two-run game-tying home run and the game saw a major shift of momentum.

Mount Olive was able to retire North Greenville and get the bats going in the bottom of the ninth. Following a fly out, Aaron Hedgepeth came into pinch hit and promptly delivered a single through the left side. Blake McLean then reached on a fielder's choice setting up a key situation for Joe Mason. Mason came up with two away and delivered the biggest hit of the game as he drove a ball into the right centerfield gap. McLean hustled around from first and slid home safely giving UMO the walk-off 4-3 victory.

TROJAN LEADERS
Vito Patierno led the team's offense with two RBI and Mason had the game-winning RBI base hit. Will Abbott (1-0) picked up the win in relief allowing two runs off two hits and struck out four.

NORTH GREENVILLE LEADERS
Josh Senter collected two RBI to lead the way for the Crusaders.

KEY MOMENT
The key moment came in the bottom of the ninth when Joe Mason walked-off the Trojans.

Mount Olive will hit the diamond again March 24 against Wingate on the road at 4 p.m. in Wingate, N.C.
