Tigerville, S.C.– The Men of Mount Olive Soccer upset the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan 12-0 on Sunday afternoon, keeping a clean sheet for the match and winning 12-0 in Tigerville, S.C. UMO broke a school record for the most goals in a game for Men's Soccer. The previous record was 10 goals set in 2004 against Averett University.
Game Information
Mount Olive wasted little time to get to the net, with junior forward,
Alfie Pope scoring the first goal of the game just after the sixth minute. The Trojans would continue pressure with four back-to-back scoring opportunities, one of which was a corner resulting in the second goal for UMO. Less than 30 seconds later, Mount Olive once again put the ball in the net with the help of
Pedro Franca.
Alfie Pope wouldn't let the Warrior defense hold them off for the rest of the half, as he went on to score one more goal with 15 minutes remaining. Teams would go into half-time with the score standing 4-0, in favor of the Trojans.
In the second half, the Trojans relentlessly continue to put pressure on the Warriors scoring immediately as the second half got underway. Less than a minute later, Pope would once again find an opportunity to score, stretching the Trojan lead to six goals. Mount Olive would go on to extend their lead to 11 goals, over Southern Wesleyan's 0, before the Warriors defense could hold off the Trojan's attack. As the second half was coming to an end,
Ethan Willie found the net with just under two minutes to go and
Mustafa Nadeem would have the final goal of the match in the 88th minute, taking home the 12-0 victory.
