Murfreesboro, North Carolina - The Trojans of Mount Olive hit the road once again to face off against the Hawks of Chowan University in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. Mount Olive took the early lead but it did not last as Chowan knotted the match and sent the game into double overtime. Mount Olive moves to 1-2-1 overall and 1-2-1 in conference and Chowan goes to 3-0-1, 2-0-1.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The Hawks pushed Mount Olive on their heels to start the match as Mount Olive would defend the first shots of the game. Zac Harvey-Latham responded quickly for the Trojans, scoring a chip shot under the crossbar from 25 yards out to put UMO up 1-0. Chowan fought back with intense pressure resulting in a free kick just outside the 18 yard box. Sam Hall put the Hawks on the board with a right footed free kick placed into the bottom right netting. The score would remain 1-1 going into half time.
Tensions rose as the second half kicked off with Chowan receiving a red card less than 10 minutes into play forcing the Hawks to play a man down for the remainder of the match, allowing the Trojans few chances to take the lead and hold the score at 1-1. Mount Olive received a red card as well with 15 minutes left in regulation time leveling the playing field to 10v10.
After 90 minutes, the score was deadlocked, pushing play into overtime. Chowan had more chances than the Trojans in the first over time, so a second OT was needed. The Hawks continued to have scoring chances through the second over time, yet the resiliency of the Trojans kept the ball out of the net. The match concluded in a 1-1 tie.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Zac Harvey-Latham who had two shots on goal and scored the lone goal for Mount Olive.
CHOWAN LEADERS
Chowan was led by Harrison Ardron, who took seven shots, and Sam Hall, who put the only point on the board for the Hawks.
