#19 Trojans Secure Win at Home on One Year Anniversary of Tragic Accident

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The Trojans won their fourth game in a row Saturday. Defeating Conference Carolinas opponent North Greenville University by a score of 19-7. 

IN MEMORIAM OF TRAGIC ACCIDENT
Prior to the start of today's game, the University of Mount Olive held a moment of silence for the four lives lost in a tragic car accident one year ago today, including three former Women's Lacrosse players, Madison Mergl, Ann Wray, Chaney Partrich, and one former Baseball player, Jett Swetland. After the game families of Madison, Ann and Chaney were invited to join the team on the field for a prayer circle. Members of the Women's Lacrosse team wrote tributes to their former teammates, which were read out loud over the PA system. The Women's Lacrosse team captains presented framed jerseys to the families of Madison and Chaney, one was sent to Ann's family who could not be in attendance. In memory of Madison, Ann, Chaney, and Jett a memorial rock has been placed by the walkway to Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex.

GAME INFORMATION
One minute into the game the Crusaders registered the first shot on goal, saved by starting goaltender for the Trojans, Ciara Moorman. Less than a minute a later the Trojans' Kelly Young found the back of the net, giving the Trojans a 1-0 lead. The Trojans scored two more goals before the Crusaders halted the Trojans offense by scoring one of their own, cutting their deficit down to two, 3-1. With the Trojans shorthanded Bria Hamilton ripped a shot past the Crusaders' goalie, giving the Trojans a 4-1 lead. After Kiara Burke found the back of the net, Denae Haeussler scored her second goal of the day, extending the Trojans lead to five, 6-1. The Crusaders scored two goals less than a minute apart with thirteen minutes left to go in the first half, cutting the Trojans lead down to 6-3. The teams would exchange two goals each brining the score to 8-5. A first-half filled with offense ended that way. With under a minute to go till halftime, the Crusaders' Olivia Foltz scored, bringing the Crusaders within two of the lead. Meaghan Michaud, however, scored her second goal of the day with four seconds left, putting the Trojans back up by three, 9-6. 

The second half began with each team playing stellar defense. Rachel Kellogg broke the defensive period with a goal, cutting into the lead and bringing the Crusaders within two of the lead again, 9-7. That ended up being the lone goal in the second half for North Greenville as Mount Olive scored an unanswered ten goals. During the scoring binge the Trojans' Michaud added three goals to her total on the day, bringing her to five total. Burke scored twice, bringing her total goals to four. Haeussler added one goal as well, bringing her total to three on the day. Seven different Trojans scored during the ten goal run, including Kelly Young with thirty-eight seconds left in the game. UMO took the final win at home 19-7.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Meaghan Michaud scored five goals on the day. Kiara Burke scored four. Denae Haeussler scored three.

NORTH GREENVILLE LEADERS
Rachel Kellogg and Olivia Foltz each had three goals.

KEY MOMENT
Just over two minutes into the second half the Crusaders scored, bringing themselves within two of the lead. The Trojans responded by scoring ten goals in a row, taking the game 19-7.
