DUE WEST, S.C. - The Mount Olive women's volleyball team was back in action today for a matinee matchup with Conference Carolinas foe, Erskine College. The Trojans collected their first win of the season, defeating The Flying Fleet in four sets, 3-1.
GAME INFORMATION
Set one got underway with a kill from
Camryn Huber, putting the Trojans up 1-0. With the teams tied at two apiece, The Flying Fleet went on a 5-0 run, making the score 7-3. Later in the set, the Trojans went on a 4-0 run of their own, tying the game at eleven. The two teams battled back and forth till they were tied once again, this time at eighteen. The Flying Fleet scored the next seven of eight points, taking set one 25-19.
Set two began with the Trojans scoring the first three points. This pattern would follow as the Trojans recorded four different 3-0 runs. The most crucial run of set two came with the Trojans leading by seven, 10-3. It was sparked by another kill from
Camryn Huber and propelled the Trojans to a 16-3 lead. Going to win set two, 25-10 and tying the game at one apiece.
Set three began with back and forth action. Down by two, 13-11, the Trojans rattled off four unanswered points, giving them the lead, 15-13. Needing another comeback in set three, down 22-20, the Trojans scored five out of the next six points, capped off with an attack error by Jauhna Smith, giving the Trojans the win 25-23. Set four was no different as the teams exchanged points. The Trojans had the biggest lead of the set at six points, leading 17-11. The Flying Fleet would make it close, bringing themselves within three points from the lead, 20-17. Coming through when it mattered again, the Trojans scored the next five out of six points, capped off with a kill by
Amara Eziakonwa, giving them the set win 25-18, and the win overall, 3-1.
TROJAN LEADERS
Ele'sia Williams finished with 12 kills.
Starr Sergent finished with 13.5 pts, including two service aces.
FLYING FLEET LEADERS
Jauhna Smith collected seven kills on the day.
