MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive men's basketball team defeats to the Bulldogs of Barton College 70-63 in Conference Carolinas action Tuesday night, as part of the 55th Annual Mt. Olive Pickle Classic. UMO improves to 4-7 overall and 4-7 in conference, while Barton falls to 2-5, 2-5.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The Bulldogs of Barton College started the contest on top scoring the first four points of the game, but Mount Olive responded quickly with a three-point shot and two free throws by Johnny Hughes III to take the lead 5-4 at the 17:10 mark. Both teams went back and forth for the next seven minutes and never pulled apart by more than five points. The Bulldogs were finally able to break away and pull ahead by 11 points at the 6:20 mark leading 28-17. The Trojans outscored the Bulldogs in the reminder of the half going on a 14-5 run, but never regained the lead going into the break down 33-31.
The second half started with two free throws by Johnny Hughes III as he tied the game 33-33 at the 18:53 mark. Mount Olive gained their momentum as they went on a 6-0 run to take the lead 39-33. The Trojans continued to maintain the lead and closed the game out 70-63 with Alan Treakle going 10-10 in free throws.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Johnny Hughes with 32 points and 13 rebounds. Alan Treakle a had double-digit scoring performance with 16 points respectively.
BARTON LEADERS
The Bulldogs were led by Brandon Burford with 23 points.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came came when Mount Olive gained their momentum as they went on a 6-0 run to take the lead the reminder of the game.
