Mount Olive, North Carolina – The University of Mount Olive men's basketball team defeated Belmont Abbey College in Conference Carolinas action Friday night, 80-64. UMO improves to 5-7 and 5-7 in conference play while, while Belmont Abbey falls to 10-4, 8-3.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The Trojans started off the game with a 9-2 run sparked by a jumper by Calvin Washington and steal and score by Alan Treakle. Belmont Abbey fought their way back, receiving contributions from everyone, to tie the game at 21 with five minutes left in the half. The Trojans found their defensive footing and stifled the Crusaders offense, finishing the half strong on a 10-1 run. Cole Johnson put an exclamation point on the first half, finishing a layup through contact and sinking the free throw, giving the Trojans a 31-22 lead.
The Trojans came out of halftime hitting 6-8 from the field and boosting their lead to 46-35 with 11 minutes left to go. Darius Spragley was very efficient off the bench, accounting for 20 of the 39 bench points and shooting 3-4 from deep. 14 of Spragley's points came in the second half, giving the Trojans a lead of 53-39 with 8 minutes left to play. The Crusaders would cut the deficit no closer than 9, ultimately falling 84-60. The Trojans shot 50% from three-point range, while causing 18 turnovers, scoring 20 points off them.

The Trojans were led by Darius Spragley with 20. Alan Treakle was also in double figures with 13 points.
BELMONT ABBEY LEADERS
Chandler Baker led the Crusaders with 14 points.
KEY MOMENT
A three-pointer by Alan Treakle with 12:34 seconds left in the game sparked a 10-0 run by the Trojans.
