Men's Volleyball Cruises Past Emmanuel 3-0

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team defeated the Lions of Emmanuel College 3-0 on Friday night inside Kornegay Arena.

GAME INFORMATION
Mount Olive took the early lead despite losing the first point of the set and jumped out to an 8-2 advantage. UMO kept their three-point lead for much of the set and was only threatened once, when the Lions drew to within a point twice at 13-12, 14-13. The Trojans kept the pressure on and added a two-point swing to help hold the lead and took set one 25-20.

Set two had the Trojans down again from the start, but they were once more able to pull a head 8-6 early on. The set was only tied twice before the UMO offense heated up with an 8-to-1 run to run their cushion out to 16-10. Four points would be as close as the Lions got in the second as UMO ended the frame with the final three points to take the set 25-17.

The final set finally had the Trojans take the first point of the set on their way to holding a slim 6-5 lead. The set proved to be a dogfight as it was tied 13 times before took a 23-21 lead late. The advantage was just enough to hold onto the set win at 25-23 and take the match in straight sets.

Trojan Leaders
The Trojans were led by Tobi Azeez with 12 kills in the match. Jarrod Ferguson tallied 42 of the team's 43 assists. Tobi Azeez led the defense with 10 digs and Eric Visgitis and Ferguson added five blocks.

Emmanuel Leaders
The Lions were led by Aleksa Lakic with 14 kills. Henric Westhoff assisted by collecting 36 assists and 15 digs. 

Key Moment
The biggest momentum swing came in the final set when UMO was able to hold off a comeback and take the final two points to win the set and match.

Up Next
Mount Olive will hit the road with their February 6th match being postponed and head to King University February 12th at 7 p.m. in Bristol, Tenn.
