Men's Volleyball Downs Bobcats Of Lees-McRae 3-1

BANNER ELK, N.C- The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team defeated the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College 3-1 on Saturday afternoon on the road.

GAME INFORMATION
Mount Olive won the opening point and worked out to a 6-2 lead. The game stayed close and in the favor of the Trojans until LMC clawed their way back into the game and tied the set at 15. The score remained close for the remainder of the set until UMO went on a five-point run to come within one of the set win. The Bobcats won the next two points however Mount Olive closed out the set and won 25-20.

The second set two saw the Trojans take the first two points of the set and not lose the lead until the Bobcats ran five unanswered points to take their first lead at 11-8. UMO responded with three points of their own to tie the game at 11. The lead changed hands five times until UMO tied the match at 21, After the tie the match went point-for-point forcing the set to go past 25 and LMC came out on top winning the set 29-27.

The third set had the Trojans come out to a 7-4 lead but saw that lead escape as the Bobcats tied it at eight. Following the tie, UMO went on a 9-to-3 run to take control of the game at 17-11. Three points was as close as Lees-McRae came in the set as Tobi Azeez picked up the final two kills to close out the set and put UMO up 2-1.

Lees-McRae took the first two points of the final set and then the two squads exchanged pairs of points for much of the set, but UMO held a slim two point lead late in the set 20-18. Mount Olive closed out the set on a 3-to-1 run and took the set 25-22 and won the match 3-1.

Trojan Leaders
The Trojans were led by Tobi Azeez with 18 kills in the match. Iyanu Adebisi led the defense with 17 digs.

Lees-McRae Leaders
The Bobcats were led by Max Kuntz with 16 kills.

Key Moment
The key moment came in the final set when the Trojans were able to close out a slim set victory en route to the match win.

Mount Olive will remain on the road and play Belmont Abbey on February 19 at 7 p.m. in Belmont, N.C.
