No.10 Men's Lacrosse Wins Season Opener Against Coker University 10-8

Mount Olive, North Carolina - The No.10 ranked University of Mount Olive men's lacrosse team defeated Coker University 10-8 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex in Mount Olive, N.C.

INSIDE THE SCORE
Mount Olive fell behind early as Coker scored the first two goals of the contest and put the Trojans down by two with 9:16 left in the opening quarter. UMO's RJ Chandler responded and tied the game with a pair of goals in the final six minutes of play, however, CU had the final shot and regained the lead 3-2 heading into the second.

In the second quarter, it was much of the same as the Trojans were outscored 3-to-2 and went into the half down 6-4.

Following the halftime break UMO picked up the pace scoring the first goal out of the stick of Tim De Ceuster at the 13:20 mark. The goal sparked a 3-0 run putting Mount Olive back in the lead 7-6. Coker was able to notch one score at the 8:15 mark in the quarter, but the Trojans pushed back on a Benjamin Jenkins unassisted score and went into the final frame up 8-7.

In the final quarter, the scoring slowed down significantly as Parker Beaudry scored the first goal of the quarter for Mount Olive. After a Cobras goal drew the score to 9-8, Aidan Lalonde sealed the win with 33 seconds left in the game and Mount Olive took home the 10-8 victory.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Chaz Goodman, Tim De Ceuster, RJ Chandler, and Benjamin Jenkins who all had two goals each. Chandler also added three assists in the contest. Andrew Avarello recorded his first win on the season and had 14 saves in between the pipes.

COKER LEADERS
The Cobras were led by Matt Murphy, Andrew Dappen, and Dominic Madlang with two goals each.

KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game was in the final minute of the game when Beaudry sealed the win with an insurance goal to take home the 10-8 win.

UP NEXT
Mount Olive will return in action on February 16 when the Trojans hit the road to take on Catawba College at 4 p.m. in Salisbury, N.C.
