MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team defeated Anderson University 64-56 on Monday. This win takes the Trojans to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in Conference.
INSIDE THE SCORE
Anderson saw the scoreboard early as they took a 2-0 lead with 9:57 remaining in the first quarter. After the fourth lead change, Anderson gained the momentum of the first quarter. UMO fought back to come within eight as they headed to quarter number two 22-14.
Mount Olive saw the first two points of quarter two with a jump shot from Azariah Fields decreasing the Anderson lead to six 22-16. With five minutes remaining the Trojans offense came within two 27-25, with a jump shot from Laila Harris. The Trojans headed into halftime tied at 33.
The third quarter saw another Trojan lead as Ivanda Hudjakova made two free throws 35-33 with 9:14 remaining. After three lead changes, UMO closed out quarter number three with a two-point lead 47-45.
The final quarter saw an four-point Mount Olive lead with another jump shot from Azariah Fields 49-45 with 9:52 remaining. Anderson could not come within six of the Trojans until the two minute mark 60-55 in favor of UMO. The Trojans held onto their lead and earned the eight-point victory 64-56.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Ivanda Hudjakova led the Trojans with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Azariah Fields took home five rebounds and 15 points.
ANDERSON LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Shameka McNeil with 28 points.
