MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team defeated the Lions of Emmanuel College 63-54 on Saturday. This win takes the Trojans to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in Conference.
INSIDE THE SCORE
Mount Olive took an early 4-0 lead with 6:37 remaining in the first quarter. Halfway through the first quarter the Trojans increased their lead to 13 with a jump shot from Sherry Johnson 15-2 with 3:39 remaining. The Trojans remained in control for the remainder of the quarter 22-8.
The Mount Olive defense continued to impress as they kept their lead 24-10 with 5:37 remaining the second quarter. The Lions answered with a layup coming within four of the Trojans 26-22 with 2:04 remaining in the half. UMO headed into halftime with a eight point lead 30-22.
Emmanuel saw the first point of the third quarter decreasing the Trojan lead to seven 23-30 with 9:26 remaining. With dominating defense the Trojans stretched their lead to 13 37-24 with 7:14 remaining. UMO remained in control for the remainder of the quarter 51-36.
The final quarter saw three Trojan points right way increasing their lead to 18 54-36 with 9:14 remaining in the contest. The Lions came within eight of the Trojans 59-51 with 1:24 remaining. The Trojan offense took control and secured the nine point victory 63-54 to continue their undefeated season.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Azariah Fields led the Trojans with 17 points, while Ivanda Hudjakova took home five rebounds and 10 points.
LIONS LEADERS
The Lions were led by Jeanetta Elder with 18 points.
