MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive men's basketball team defeated the Conference Carolinas-leaders, the Lions of Emmanuel College 89-84 on Saturday. This win takes the Trojans to 6-4 overall and 5-1 in Conference.
INSIDE THE SCORE
Mount Olive opened the contest with a three-pointer from Matthias Caver 3-0 with 19:41 remaining in the half. The Lions took their first lead with 16:18 remaining 7-6. The Trojans answered and gained a seven-point lead 25-18 with 7:45 remaining. UMO stayed in control for the remainder of the half taking a six-point lead into the half 41-35.
The Lions went into half number two with energy scoring the first two points coming within four of the Trojans 41-37 with 19:20 remaining in the contest. UMO answered back with another three-pointer from Matthias Caver increasing their lead to eight 49-41. During the remaining five minutes Emmanuel gained their much need momentum coming within two of UMO 79-77 with 1:32 remaining. The Lions did not stop as they came within one of the Trojans with 18 seconds remaining. The dominating Trojan defense stopped the Lions and took home the five-point victory 89-84.

Matthias Caver led the Trojans with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Alan Treakle took home 18 points.
LIONS LEADERS
The Lions were led by Brandon Simpson with 21 points.
