MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive men's basketball team defeated the Tornado of King University 79-68 Tuesday. This win takes the Trojans to 7-4 overall and 6-1 in Conference.
INSIDE THE SCORE
King opened the contest with a jump shot 2-0 with 19:53 remaining. Mount Olive took a three-point lead over the Tornado with a free throw from Micheal Brown 9-6 with 15:08 remaining in the first half. The Trojan lead was increased to five with a jump shot from Darius Spragley 16-11 with 8:10 remaining. With 6:26 remaining UMO took a seven-point lead 23-16. The Tornado offense could not be stopped as they decreased the Trojan lead to one going into the second half.
The Tornado scored the first points in the second half taking a one point lead over Mount Olive 30-29. With 19:09 remaining, Micheal Brown tied up the contest at 30. UMO increased their lead to six with two free throws from Darius Spragley 49-43. Later in the half the Trojans gained a 17-point lead over King 66-49 with a layup from Cole Johnson. The dominating Mount Olive offense could not be stopped as they took the 11-point victory 79-68.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Cole Johnson led the Trojans with 18 points, while Matthias Caver took home 11 rebounds and 12 points.
TORNADO LEADERS
The Tornados were led by Isaiah Curry with eight rebounds.
