Trojan Men's Soccer Wins Late Second Thriller Over Sixth-Seeded North Greenville In Quarterfinals Of Conference Carolinas Championship

Mount Olive, N.C. ---  UMO Men's Soccer (12-5-0) won a late second thriller over sixth-seeded North Greenville University (8-7-3) in the Quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Championship, Saturday afternoon at Amon Field.

INSIDE THE SCORE:
The opening period had UMO jump a head first in the 18th minute. Ethan Willie was able to find space and create a breakaway beating the Crusader keeper to the bottom left of the goal. NGU was able to counter late in the period as a misplay by the Trojans keeper allowed Gareth Greene to score the equalizer in the 42nd minute.

The half ended with Mount Olive registering one shot that sailed high.

In the second, Mount Olive's defense locked down the Crusaders allowing just four shots. The game neared regulation in a deadlock, however a game-winner was on the horizon at a sub 60 degree gusty and rain soaked Amon Field.

The Trojans charged down the pitch and Roberto Hernandez crossed in a shot to the waiting head of Alfie Pope, who finished the opportunity and gave UMO the lead with 50 seconds left in the game. No shot was recorded and Mount Olive advanced to the semifinals of the conference championship.

Mount Olive Leaders:
Pope led the Trojans with the game-winner. 

North Greenville Leaders:
The Crusaders were led by Greene with the sole goal for NGU

This evening was a great example of our guys ability to overcome adversity, fight through difficult conditions, and find a way to win. So grateful for all the support we had this evening," said Head Coach Jason Carlson.

The Trojans will take on the No. 2 seed Chowan University in the semifinals of Conference Carolinas Championship Nov. 12 at 1:30 p.m., at the Florence Soccer Complex in Florence, S.C.
