Men's Basketball Defeats The Valkyries of Converse University

SPARTANBURG, South Carolina - The University of Mount Olive men's basketball team defeated the Valkyries of Converse University 81-75 on Tuesday. This win takes the Trojans to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in Conference. 

INSIDE THE SCORE

Mount Olive took the first two points to open the contest 2-0 with 18:06 left in the half. Midway throught the half UMO trailed by four, however the Trojans tied the game at 20 with a dunk from Matthias Caver at the 6:50 mark. UMO never relinquished the lead and went into halftime up by three 32-29.

The second half saw the Trojans score the first two points with a jump shot from Javian Cannady 34-29 with 19:42 remaining. The Valkyries tied the contest at 41 with 17:15 remaining. A three-pointer from Ryan Archey gave the Trojans the lead 48-47 with 13:27 remaining. After five lead changes, the Trojans earn a six-point victory 81-75.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS

Matthias Caver led the Trojans with 30 points and nine rebounds, while Alan Treakle took home 20 points also scoring his 1,000th point of his career.

VALKYRIES LEADERS

The Valkyries were led by Sigmurd Lorange with 28 points.

KEY STAT

The Trojans capitalized on points in the paint as they had 54 while the Valkyries only had 26.

COACHES COMMENTS
"Very proud of our guys to go on the road and fight for the win. Matthias and Alan led us. It was great seeing Ryan Archey step up and rebound the ball the way he did, that was huge for us," said Head Coach Joey Higginbotham.

Mount Olive will return home in Kornegay Arena as they take on Belmont Abbey College on December 3rd at 7:00 PM.
