The University of Mount Olive (6-9) dropped a back-and-forth battle to Newberry College (10-7) 4-2 in the opening round of the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Championship Tournament Tuesday afternoon.
Game Information
The opening quarter was a stalemate as only one shot, by Newberry, was recorded and the game remained scoreless heading into the second.
In the second, the Trojans found an opening off a penalty stroke (25:52) as
Morgan Paterson was taken out by the wolves keeper giving her a chance. The freshman stood over the ball and struck to her left and snuck the shot into the back left corner of the cage and put UMO up 1-0.
Newberry countered less than three minutes later with a shot by Lily Drury and the game went into halftime tied 1-1.
The third frame started off with some fireworks as Paterson registered her second goal 2:28 in on a 1v1 getting around the NC keeper for the score.
The Wolves found an answer with two and half minutes left tying the game at two.
The fourth proved to be the deciding blow as Newberry scored twice within four minutes to take a 4-2 lead. UMO was unable to record a shot in the final four minutes of regulation and saw their season come to an end.

Newberry was led by Rachel Crowder with two of the four goals for NC.
