Women's Volleyball Defeats Belmont Abbey College 3-2 In The Second Round Of The Conference Carolinas Championship

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C.--  The University of Mount Olive defeated the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College 3-2 in the second round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament on Saturday. This win takes the Trojans to 15-13 overall. 

1st Set

The two Conference Carolina teams were battling back and forth to start set one with four lead changes before the seventh point. Belmont Abbey went on a four-point run 14-8. The Crusaders had the momentum for the remainder of the set as Belmont Abbey took set one 25-17.

2nd Set 

Mount Olive started slowly as they went down 5-3. Later, the Trojans took a three-point run and came within one of the Crusaders 9-8. UMO found their momentum as they secured the last seven out of eight points. The Trojans took set two 27-25.

3rd Set

Starting set three, UMO led 4-1. Later, the Trojans take a three-point run with a kill from Karoline Cox and Alyssa Jackson 12-9. The Crusaders answered with a five-point run 16-14. With all of the momentum, the Crusaders remained in control for the rest of the set, winning 25-19.

4th Set

UMO opened up set four up with a five-point run 5-3. Mount Olive took a crucial five-point run to pull away from Belmont Abbey 15-7. The Crusaders had no answer for UMO as the Trojans took set four 25-16.

5th Set

A strong Mount Olive offense gave the Trojans the lead 4-0. The Crusader's offense fought back and tied the set at 11. UMO took a crucial three-point run at the end of set five winning the set and the match 15-13.

Coaches Comments

"Ladies earned it tonight! Problem-solved and never panicked. Can not wait to see what we can do against Emmanuel on Tuesday," said Head Coach Emma Celentano.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS

Ashlyn Stone led the Trojans with 21 kills. 

Madison Goodman had 27 assists, and Alyssa Jackson took home five blocks.

CRUSADERS LEADER

Paige Rawlings led the Crusaders with 38 assists.  

UP NEXT

The Trojans will hit the road for the third round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament at 7:00 PM on November 16th as they take on Emmanuel College.
