Men's Basketball Falls To Augusta University To Open The 2021-22 Season

WILSON, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive men's basketball team fell short to the Jaguars of Augusta University 83-65 on Friday night in Wilson during the 45-Second Classic. This loss takes the Trojans to 0-1 overall. 

INSIDE THE SCORE
Mount Olive took the first points of the contest with a jump shot from Matthias Caver 2-0 with 19:08 left in the first half. The Trojans took an 11 point lead 12-1 with 15:36 left in the first half. UMO had the lead the entire first half as they went into halftime ahead by five 33-28.

The second half saw the Trojans score the first two points of the half. The Jaguars responded quickly with a five-point run 36-33 in the favor of UMO with 18:31 remaining in the game. Augusta found their momentum as they tied the score at 49 with 12:04 remaining. The Trojans had no answer for the Jaguars as Augusta remained in the lead for the rest of the half and took home the 18 point victory 83-65.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Alan Treakle led the Trojans with 22 points while Trayvon Ferell took home 12 rebounds and Shakei Hines had three blocks. 

JAGUARS LEADERS
The Jaguars were led by Alex Miguel Arnold 30 points.

KEY STAT
The Trojans mistakes certainly cost them as 18 of the Jaguars points came off turnovers.

COACHES COMMENTS
"It was a tough loss that we can learn so much from.  Augusta is very good experienced team. Will be a better team from this game," said head coach Joey Higginbotham.

Mount Olive will stay in Wilson for their second game in the Barton 45-Second Classic on November 13th at 11:00AM.
