PEMBROKE, N.C.-- The University of Mount Olive fell to the Braves of UNC Pembroke 3-2 in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday. This loss takes the Trojans to 9-13 overall and 4-8 in conference.
1st Set
The Trojans took an early lead with a kill from Makenzie Holzer 2-0. UMO took a three-point run with two aces from Amara Eziakonwa 8-7. A five-point run for the Braves from Trojans errors left them ahead 21-19. The Trojans came back with a three-point run 23-23 with two Mount Olive kills from Ashlyn Stone and Holzer. The Braves ending up taking set one 26-24.
2nd Set
An Ashlyn Stone kill scored the first point in set two. A four-point Trojan run put UMO ahead 11-7. The dominating Trojan offense was too much for the Braves as they took a late three-point run, winning the set 25-21.
3rd Set
A slow Mount Olive start, down 3-1, saw the momentum shift when Stone came in with a kill for the Trojans 3-2. UMO could not seem to find an answer as the Braves took a five-point run 15-9. The Braves offense took over the set as they took the set 3 25-16.
4th Set
Mount Olive came out with an early 2-0 lead with a kill from Alyssa Jackson. A three-point Trojan run with a kill from Makenzie Holzer brought the Trojans back ahead 13-9. UMO took the last nine points of the set, winning set four 25-16.
5th Set
UMO dropped to an early 4-0 deficit in the final set. The Braves offense ended up being too much for the Trojans, as UNC Pembroke took set five and the match 15-5.
Coaches Comments
"Continuing to play and get better! Started working on some different offensive tactics in practice Thursday and Friday and I really think they paid off to win two sets versus Pembroke this go. With more time and confidence on them, i'm confident we'll be peaking for the conference tournament," said Head Coach Emma Celentano.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Ashlyn Stone led the Trojans with 12 kills.
Madison Goodman had 25 assists and Morgan Prots had 21 digs.
BRAVES LEADER
Katie Pressley lead the Braves with 52 assist.
