MOUNT OLIVE, N.C.-- The University of Mount Olive defeated the Hawks of Chowan University 3-1 in Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday. This win takes the Trojans to 9-12 overall and 4-7 in conference.
1st Set
The Trojans took an early lead 5-1 with three kills from Amara Eziakonwa. A kill from Ashlyn Stone brought the Trojans up by two 14-12. UMO then took the last five out of six points of the set, to win 25-21.
2nd Set
The two Conference Carolinas foes went back and forth in the beginning of the set, until the Hawks took a six-point run to lead 8-3. A kill from Nafsika Papavasileiou started a five-point run for the Trojans and tied the set 9-9. A three-point run from Chowan, during the end of the set allowed them to win set two 25-21.
3rd Set
A six-point run for the Trojans gave them their first lead on set three 9-7. A dominating Trojan offense, then gave them a six-point lead 14-8. The Hawks could not find an answer to the Trojans in the third, and they took set three 25-14.
4th Set
Mount Olive had a slow start in set four falling 7-3. The Trojans took a crucial seven-point run to take the set and finished off the match 25-20.
Coaches Comments
"Trending in the right direction, we're starting to play our best volleyball leading up to the conference tournament. Getting ready for Pembroke on Saturday," said Head Coach Emma Celentano.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Amara Eziakonwa led the Trojans with 14 kills.
Jenna Myer had 22 assists and Morgan Prots had 32 digs.
CHOWAN LEADER
Ciara Ortega lead the Hawks with 31 digs.
Key Stat
Mount Olive beat the Hawks in every statistical category including aces where the Hawks had five with the Trojans securing eight.
