Trojan Men's Soccer Falls To Francis Marion In OT Thriller 3-2

Mount Olive, N.C. ---  The UMO Men's Soccer (9-5-0, 7-2-0) was unable to comeback against Francis Marion University (8-4-2, 7-0-1) 3-2 in overtime in Conference Carolinas action Tuesday night at Amon Field.

INSIDE THE SCORE:
The opening period had Francis Marion score in the first 40 seconds and take control of most of the frame as they took the lead into halftime. The Trojans only mustered one shot on frame on six total attempts.

Mount Olive was able to tie the contest in the 79th minute off Francisco Macedo's score and the momentum shifted towards UMO. 

Roberto Hernandez put the Trojans a head in the 87th minute after Gabe Highfield found the open Hernandez for the 2-1 lead.

FMU did not allow the lead to hold as they scored two minutes later and the game was tied at two.

Neither team was able to find the go ahead goal and the match went into overtime.

In overtime FMU was poised to take control and did so scoring the golden goal 2:10 into the period and escaped with the victory.

Mount Olive Leaders:
Macedo and Hernandez led the Trojans with a goal a piece. 

Francis Marion Leaders:
The Patriots were led by Javier Bello with the game-winner.

Key Stat:
In the narrowest of margins the Trojans out shot Francis Marion 17-16, despite falling in the match.

Whats Next:
The Trojans concluded their regular-season home schedule and will hit the road for their final two games of the season. UMO heads to Converse on October 23 at 4:30 p.m.
