Women's Volleyball Defeats Lees-McRae College

BANNER ELK, N.C.--  The University of Mount Olive defeated the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College 3-1 in Conference Carolinas action on Sunday. This win takes the Trojans to 8-12 overall and 3-7 in conference.

1st Set
The Trojans took the first point of the set one with a kill from Makenzie Holzer 1-0. An error from the Bobcats gave the Trojans the serve 4-2. A dominating Mount Olive took a three-point run with kills from Starr Sergent and Nafsika Papvasileiou 9-6. Lees-McRae, however, took control for the remainder of the set winning set one 25-19. 

2nd Set 
A UMO early run brought the Trojans up 5-0 with a kill from Karoline Cox. Mount Olive took another run with a kill from Ele'sia Williams 12-5. In the back half of the set the Trojans dominated taking a six-point run 22-17. UMO took set two 25-19. 

3rd Set
Mount Olive had a slow start coming out down by two 2-0. A dominating Trojan offense once again, led by Madison Goodman, took a six-point run 21-13. The Trojans remained in control as they took set three 25-19.

4th Set
An early run from the Bobcats had the Trojans down 9-7. UMO rallied off nine straight points with three kills from Ashlyn Stone 16-9. Another four-point Trojan run left the Bobcats to far behind as the Trojans won set four 25-14.

Coaches Comments
"Fun match! Always great to see our team handle adversity and we've had a lot of it this weekend. They battled through the first and then dominated 2, 3, 4. Good for our morale!" said  head coach Emma Celentano.
 

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Amara Eziakonwa led the Trojans with 17 kills. 
Madison Goodman had 25 assists and Ashlyn Stone had 23 digs. 

BOBCAT LEADER
Carlee Allbaugh lead the Bobcats with 35 Assist. 

Key Stat
Mount Olive beat the Bobcats in every statistical category except for aces where the Bobcats had eight with the Trojans securing five.

The Trojans are back at home as they take on Chowan University for Conference Carolinas action on October 20th at 6:00PM.
