Mount Olive Posts Second Conference Victory With 82-65 Win Over Chowan Hawks

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive men's basketball team posted their second conference victory with 82-65 win over Chowan University on Tuesday afternoon in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action. UMO improves to 2-4, 2-4 on the season, while Chowan falls to 2-2, 2-2.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Trojans came out the gate flying to an 18-0 lead to start the game. Johnny Hughes III made a slam dunk off the backboard that was assisted by Darius Spragley to highlight the run. Chowan did not score a single point until the 14:00 mark as Calvin Ahoume made one free throw. The Hawks struggled to get it going early; their first made field goal did not come until 10:39 mark as Tahkey Willams made a layup, but the Hawks were still trailing 25-5. As the Trojans offense stayed hot, Chowan tried to close the gap and went into halftime with a 13-point deficit as UMO remainded in the lead 35-22. The Trojans held Chowan to just 31% from the field in the first half.

Chowan started the second half with a 5-0 run until Calvin Washington answered on the other end with a three-point shot to help push the lead back to double-digits 38-27 at the 18:31 mark. Chowan cut the lead to single digits with 14:00 left to play, but the Trojans still had their momentum from the first half and went on a 13-0 run leading 63-41 with 9:50 remaining in the game. Chowan tried to climb back into the game, but Mount Olive held the lead the remainder of the game and took home the 82-65 victory.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Johnny Hughes III led the Trojans with a season-high of 28 points and 11 rebounds. Matthias Caver and Calvin Washington also found themselves in double digits with 12 and 10 points respectively. 
 
CHOWAN LEADERS
Jonathan McFall led the Hawks with 15 points.

The game's key moment is when the Trojans started the game off with an 18-0 run and held their opponent to their first made field goal ten minutes into the game.

Mount Olive will be back in conference action January 28th against cross-town rival Barton College in Wilson N.C. at 7 P.M.
