Women's Basketball Falls Short to Lees-McRae in Game Two 79-70

Banner Elk, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team fell short to Lees-McRae College 78-59 in game two in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats improve to 3-0, while the Trojans fall to 0-2 to begin their season.

INSIDE THE SCORE

Mount Olive started off the game with a three-point shot by Azariah Fields assisted by Teliyah Owens. The Trojans then added a quick six points to take the lead. Lees McRae came back with seven points of their own but still trailing 9-7 at the 7:00 mark. Both teams battled it out, but the Trojans never gave up the lead ending the first quarter 23-21.

In the second quarter, the Bobcats continued to fight as they put up nine points to take the lead 32-26 at the 7:08 mark. Mount Olive was able to get their momentum back as they scored six points of their own but still trailed behind 36-32 with 3:18 let in the second quarter. LMC never backed down and took a seven point lead to finish off the second quarter, 43-36.

The third quarter began with a Trojan basket putting them up 43-38 with 9:44 remaining left in the game. LMC was not surrendering the lead as both teams continued to go neck and neck. Kiara Jackson, Ayonna  Cotten, and Ivanda Hudjakova found their hot hand to help out the Trojans put up thirteen points but still trailed behind 56-51 to end the quarter.

In the final quarter, the LMC offense continued to play strong and put ten more points up to keep the lead 66-58 at the 4:34 mark. The Trojans put up a good fight, but the Bobcats held onto the lead until the final horn and took the game by a final of 79-70.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Ayonna Cotten led the Trojans with 20 points. Azariah FieldsIvanda Hudjakova, and Kiara Jackson all had double-digit scoring with 15,15, and 12 points respectively.

BOBCAT LEADERS
Jala Hollomon and Arriana Lizarraga led LMC with 15 points. Jessica Henderson had double-digit scoring with 12 points respectively.

KEY MOMENT
The game's key moment was in the second quarter when the Bobcats took a seven point lead 43-36 and held onto the lead to take the 79-70 win over the Trojans.

Mount Olive will back in conference action in Spartanburg, S.C., January 19th facing Converse College at 5 P.M.
