Women's Basketball Falls to Lees-McRae 78-59

Banner Elk, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team fell to Lees-McRae College 78-59 in Conference Carolinas action Friday afternoon. The Bobcats improve to 2-0, while the Trojans fall to 0-1 to start their season.

INSIDE THE SCORE
Mount Olive started the game with a quick ten points. Lees-McRae came back with eight points of their own but still trailing 10-8 at the 1:17 mark. The Trojans nor the bobcats could find the basket in the last minute and ended the first quarter 10-8.

In the second quarter, the Trojans continued to fight as Teliyah Owens made the first basket and Ayanna Cotten made a three-point shot within 1:46 to help lead the Trojans to a 15-10 lead. UMO never surrendered the lead until the Bobcats tied the game 18-18 with 5:42 left in the quarter. Both teams fought hard, but Lees-McRae's offense came alive and took a five-point lead to finish off the second quarter 35-30.

The third quarter began with a Bobcat basket putting them up 37-30 with 8:58 remaining left in the game. Lees-McRae found their hot hand and scored seven points with 7:45 remaining in the quarter leading 39-32. Both teams played aggressively, but Lees-McRae ended the quarter not surrendering the lead 52-46.

In the final quarter, the Bobcats took the opening points at the 9:33 mark and never surrendered the lead for the remainder of the game, taking a 78-59 victory.

Azariah Fields led the Trojans with 12 points, four assists, and three steals.

Makayla Smith led LMC with 19 points, five assists, and three steals. 

KEY MOMENT
The game's key moment was in the fourth quarter when the Bobcats took the opening points and never surrendered the lead 39-32 to take the 78-59 win over the Trojans.
