Box Score WILSON, North Carolina - The No. 7 University of Mount Olive baseball team defeated the archrival Bulldogs of Barton College 11-0 in the series opener Friday afternoon at Nixon Field in Wilson, N.C. UMO improves to 17-2 overall and 7-0 in the conference, while Barton falls to 9-12, 1-6.
INSIDE THE SCORE
Mount Olive fired the opening salvo in the first when JT Stone hit a solo home run to get the offense going. UMO went onto add three more runs in the inning and led 4-0.
The third, fourth, and fifth innings all saw single runs come across for the Trojans extending the margin to 7-0.
Gunner Tolston boosted the Mount Olive lead to double-digits with a three-run home run in the top of the sixth and UMO led 10-0.
A final run came home for the visitors in the ninth and sealed the game one victory 11-0.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Will Abbott (4-0) got the win for the Trojans going six and two-thirds of scoreless baseball, allowing five hits, a walk, and struck out six. Gunner Tolston led the Trojans with one of the biggest hits of the game, his three-RBI home run, to go along with his 2-for-5 outing on the day.
BARTON LEADERS
The Bulldogs were led by Colby Warren who has team-high two base hits.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the first when UMO took the momentum with a four-run inning and never surrendered the lead.
