MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The No. 7 University of Mount Olive baseball team defeated the Wolves of Newberry College 4-1 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Scarborough Field. UMO improves to 16-2 overall, while Newberry falls to 15-5.

INSIDE THE SCORE
Mount Olive fell behind after two scoreless innings in the top of the third after Newberry scored on an RBI-single down the left-field line.

Matt Stokes tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI-single through the left side and the game was knotted at one.

It was not until the fifth inning that the tie would be broken. With two runners on Gunner Tolston lifted a pitch over the left field wall and boosted the Trojans to a 4-1 lead.

Mount Olive then shut the door only allowing four runners to reach base for the remainder of the contest and took the victory.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Kyle Davis (2-0) got the win for the Trojans in relief going five complete allowing only two hits, while holding the Wolves scoreless and struck out three. Jake Isbell (SV:4) came in to shut down the game in the ninth and picked up the three out save. Gunner Tolston led the Trojans with the biggest hit of the game, his three-RBI home run, to go along with his 2-for-4 outing on the day.

NEWBERRY LEADERS
The Wolves were led by Ian Clements who went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the fifth when Tolston put the Trojan ahead for good.

Mount Olive will compete next on the road in a three-game series against archrival Barton on March 6 with a single game before the series finale doubleheader on March 7 at 11 a.m.
