MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The No. 17 University of Mount Olive baseball team took down the Chargers of Dominican College 3-1 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Scarborough Field. UMO improves to 19-4 overall, while Dominican falls to 2-10.

INSIDE THE SCORE
Mount Olive had deja vu from Tuesday's game as Dominican struck for an early run in the first on an RBI-double and led 1-0.

UMO this time did not let the lead stand for more than the half-inning. After a lead-off flyout, JT Stone tied the game with a solo home run to right-center. Junior Snow helped the cause a few batters later with an RBI-double and the Trojans took the lead 2-1.

It was not until the sixth inning that Mount Olive added a much-needed insurance run by way of Dusty Baker and the bat of James Smibert. Smibert's RBI-double put UMO up 3-1.

The Chargers threatened in the seventh as they had the bases loaded with no outs, but Kyle Davis came in out of the pen to bail the Trojans out getting an infield fly and a double play to end the inning.

Davis went onto retire the next six DC batters and seal the win for UMO and the Trojans took the 3-1 win.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Trent Joiner (1-1) got the win for the Trojans going six complete allowing one run off seven hits and struck out seven. Kyle Davis (SV:2) recorded his second save taking the final three frames and did not allow a hit and struck out two. Stone, Snow, and Smibert all had an RBI in the contest.

DOMINICAN LEADERS
The Chargers were led by Brian Sanders who had sole RBI for Dominican.

KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the bottom of the first when Snow gave UMO the go-ahead run, which proved to be the run needed to stay in front of the Chargers.

Mount Olive will be back in action Friday when the Trojans host Belmont Abbey in a three-game series beginning at 3 p.m.
