Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The No. 7 University of Mount Olive baseball team took down the Chargers of Dominican College 11-3 in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at Scarborough Field. UMO improves to 18-4 overall, while Dominican falls to 2-9.
INSIDE THE SCORE
Mount Olive saw the wheels fall off early on in the second inning as a series of hit-by-pitches, wild pitches, and Trojan error allowed three runs to score for Dominican and the Chargers took a 3-0 lead.
It wasn't until the third inning that UMO was able to find an answer as JT Stone scored the first runs of the game off a two RBI-double down the left field line. Joe Mason and Junior Snow added RBI base knocks as well to finally put UMO in front 4-3.
From that point on Mount Olive went onto add more insurance runs in the fifth (1), seventh (5), and eighth (1) to extend the advantage to eight.
Dominican was able to get to runners on in the ninth but The Trojans closed the door and took the win.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Seth Houston (1-0) got the win for the Trojans in relief going four and a third allowing one hit and struck out six. Matt Stokes led the team in RBI with three with Dusty Baker was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate.
DOMINICAN LEADERS
The Chargers were led by Joshua Colon who had a team-high two hits.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the third when Junior Snow gave Mount Olive the 4-3 lead, an advantage they never surrendered.
