No. 20 Mount Olive Takes Down Francis Marion In Extras 10-9

FLORENCE, South Carolina - The No. 20 University of Mount Olive baseball team defeated Francis Marion University 10-9 in non-conference action Wednesday night in Florence, S.C. UMO improves to 3-1 overall, while Francis Marion falls to 2-2.

INSIDE THE SCORE
Mount Olive fell behind from the start as Francis Marion pushed home three runs in the bottom of the first and took the early lead. The Trojans were able to draw the lead down to one after a Joe Mason two-RBI double. 

Mason put Mount Olive in front with a three-run home run in the fifth and the Trojans extended the lead to 7-3 after the fifth. 

After the sixth, the Patriots regained the game, following a four-run inning and led 8-7.

The two squads exchanged tying the game in the seventh, eighth and ninth and forced extra innings.

Mason put the Trojans back in the lead with a solo home run in the top of the tenth and the lead was never surrendered again as UMo won 10-9.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Joe Mason who went 3-for-5 with six RBI including a double and two home runs. Jake Isbell (1-0) got the win in relief for Mount Olive throwing two and third shutout innings and struck out three Patriots batters.

FRANCIS MARION LEADERS
The Patriots were led by Sam Stonskas with a team-high two RBI. 

KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the top of the tenth when Joe Mason hit the go-ahead home run to propel the Trojans to the 10-9 victory.

Mount Olive opens up at Scarborough Field February 8 against Lenoir-Rhyne with a doubleheader scheduled for 12 p.m. in Mount Olive, N.C.
