Box Score WILSON, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team fell short to Barton College 80-67 in Conference Carolinas action Wednesday afternoon. Barton improves to 20-5 overall and 17-3 in the conference, while Mount Olive falls to 17-7, 14-6.
INSIDE THE SCORE
Barton College started off the game with a quick four points. The Trojans pulled through at the 3:29 mark taking the lead 13-12. Both teams went back and forth until the quarter ended tied 17-17.
The second quarter began with a Trojan basket putting them up 19-17 at the 9:44 mark. UMO never surrendered the lead until the Bulldogs tied the game 29-29 with 2:32 left in the quarter. The Trojans continued to press and went into the half leading 33-32.
The third quarter started with a Barton bucket, but Mount Olive quickly responded with one of their own keeping the lead 35-34 with 9:01 remaining. Barton found their rhythm and led against the Trojans until 5:59 remaining in the ball game. The two teams continue to battle and eventually ended the third in yet another tie 56-56.
In the final quarter, Barton took the opening points at the 9:40 mark and never surrendered the lead for the remainder of the game taking an 80-67 victory.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Jada Bacchus with 26 points. Azariah Fields had double-digit scoring with 16 points respectively.
BARTON LEADERS
Bulldogs were led by Shanika Peterkin with 23 points. Jami Tham-Morrobel, Summer Bear, and Michelle Gainey all had double-digit scoring performances with 20, 15,12 points.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game was in the fourth quarter when the Bulldogs went on a 22-9 run to take the 80-67 win over the Trojans.
