Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The No. 11 University of Mount Olive baseball team fell to Catawba College in non-conference action at Scarborough Field on Wednesday afternoon. UMO falls to 9-2 overall, while Catawba improves to 8-2.
INSIDE THE SCORE
Mount Olive and Catawba battled at the beginning but neither team found the opening run until the fourth.
Catawba opened the scoring on a wild pitch to push home the first run and take the early lead.
Mount Olive answered to knot the game at one in the fifth on a Junior Snow sacrifice fly.
The contest went onto be tied twice more before a massive five-run eighth inning gave the Indians the cushion they needed to take the victory.
The Trojans scratched across one more run in the bottom of the inning but it was answered in the ninth and Catawba closed the game out to pick up the 8-5 midweek game win.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Julian Blackburn (0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief allowing three runs in a third of an inning. Zack Smith led the offense going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
CATAWBA LEADERS
The Indians were led by Hunter Shepherd who had three RBI in the game.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the eighth when the Indians scored five runs to regain the lead and push ahead by a three run margin.
