Box Score 2 CHARLOTTE, North Carolina - The No. 20 University of Mount Olive baseball team defeated Queens University (NC) in the first two games of a three-game series on the road at Tuckaseegee Dream Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. Saturday. UMO improves to 8-1 overall, while Queens falls to 0-9.
INSIDE THE SCORE GAME 1
Mount Olive in a low scoring affair in game one found life in the fifth scoring Blake McLean on a Gunner Tolston RBI-single for the game's first run of the game. In the sixth UMO made the Royals pay from faulting throwing and scored their second and final run on a throwing error by the catcher and took a 2-0 lead.
Queens only had two runners reach base in the final two frames as the Trojans closed out game one with a final 2-0 victory.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Hunter Stevens (2-0) got the win for the Trojans going the distance allowing only four hits and struck out eight. Gunner Tolston led the offense going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the fifth when Tolston scored what would be the winning run for UMO.
INSIDE THE SCORE GAME 2
Game two was a much different story for the Trojans as Queens as the Royals loaded the bases in the first and plated three runs to take an early lead. QU added a solo run in the fourth and Mount Olive was not able to counter until the fifth.
Jack Casbarro, Zack Smith and Gunner Tolston all pick up RBI base hits in the inning driving home three runs to decrease the Royals lead to 4-3.
The Royals added a pair of runs in the fifth and a solo run in the sixth to extend the cushion to 7-3.
Mount Olive did not falter, however, as the Trojans picked up a pair of runs in the eight on a JT Stone home run. Dusty Baker added another RBI base knock for the visiting Trojans and the biggest hit came from Blake McLean. McLean doubled into left-center scoring Casbarro and Baker to regain the lead for Mount Olive at 8-7.
UMO closed out the game and took the final 9-7.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Kyle Davis (1-0) got the win for the Trojans in game two going one complete striking out three. Jake Isbell (SV: 2) got the save going one complete of hitless ball. Blake McLean led UMO with two RBI on the heels of a 1-for-2 performance with two walks from the plate.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the eighth when the Trojans took the game's final lead en route to the win.
